Remove the stale bytecode execution debug hook from Interpreter.cpp now
that bytecode dispatch always enters AsmInt directly. The remaining
bytecode dump flag is separate and still used by parser/codegen paths.
Create Libraries/LibWeb/Compositor and make the existing rendering
thread the first owner in that subsystem. Rename RenderingThread to
CompositorThread so later commits can grow it into the presentation
owner without leaving that vocabulary in HTML.
Keep display-list rasterization and delivery behavior unchanged in this
commit. Add COMPOSITOR_DEBUG to AK/Debug.h.in in the same step so
compositor diagnostics live beside the rest of the project-wide debug
toggles from the start of the stack.
Instead of sweeping all heap blocks in one go after marking, sweep
incrementally, one block at a time, interleaved with program execution.
This significantly reduces worst-case GC pause times by spreading
sweep work across multiple smaller time slices.
Sweep is driven by two complementary mechanisms:
1. Timer-based sweeping: A 16ms repeating timer drives background
sweep work, processing blocks for up to 5ms per timer fire.
2. Allocation-directed sweeping: Each allocator sweeps its own
pending blocks before creating new ones, ensuring forward
progress even without timer events.
Each allocator maintains its own list of blocks pending sweep,
and allocators with pending work are tracked in a separate list
for efficient timer-driven sweeping.
Key implementation details:
- Newly allocated cells during sweep are marked immediately to
prevent premature collection.
- Mark bits are cleared incrementally as each block is swept,
rather than in a separate pass over the entire heap.
- Finalization and weak reference processing remain stop-the-world
since they must complete atomically before any sweeping occurs.
Per-request and per-connection logging that surfaces enough detail
to diagnose where time goes when a page load misbehaves. Gated by a
new REQUESTSERVER_WIRE_DEBUG cmakedefine.
Documentation/RequestServerWireLogging.md describes each label
(wire/wire+/wire++/wire^, wire-batch, wire-stall, wire-burst,
wire-pipe-pressure, LibDNS wire-dns, UI wire-cookie) and how to read
them.
Add a HistoryStore abstraction with transient and persisted backends,
normalize recorded URLs, and skip non-browsable schemes.
Cover lookup and persistence in TestHistoryStore so history-driven
features can share one backend.
Vulkan Validation Layers provides diagnostic feedback about Vulkan API
usage while live testing Ladybird. It is possible to enable this
diagnostic output without changing the code (using the Vulkan SDK),
but having it built into the code makes it very easy to enable whenever
required.

Add optional tracing that prints a tree visualization of formatting
context `run()` invocations. This is useful for debugging layout issues
where you need to understand the nesting and order of layout passes,
or why a box receives unexpected available space.
Example output:

This involves yeeting the 'invalid' union member as it was not really
checked against properly anyway; now the 'invalid' state is simply
StringData*{nullptr}, which was assumed to not exist previously.
Note that this is still accessing inactive union members, but is
promising to the compiler that they're fine where they are (the provided
debug macro AK_STRINGBASE_VERIFY_LAUNDER_DEBUG makes the
would-be-UB-if-not-for-launder ops verify that the operation is correct)
Should fix the GCC build.
To aid with debugging web page issues in Ladybird without needing to
implement a fully fledged inspector, we can implement the Firefox
DevTools protocol and use their DevTools. The protocol is described
here:

This commit contains just enough to connect to Ladybird from a DevTools
client.
We had numerous NiH-based implementations of audio formats and metadata
that we now no longer need because we either don't make use of the code,
or we replaced its implementation by FFmpeg.
You can now build with STYLE_INVALIDATION_DEBUG and get a debug stream
of reasons why style invalidations are happening and where.
I've rewritten this code many times, so instead of throwing it away once
again, I figured we should at least have it behind a flag.
This large commit also refactors LibWebView's process handling to use
a top-level Application class that uses a new WebView::Process class to
encapsulate the IPC-centric nature of each helper process.
On macOS, it's not trivial to get a Mach task port for your children.
This implementation registers the chrome process as a well-known
service with launchd based on its pid, and lets each child process
send over a reference to its mach_task_self() back to the chrome.
We'll need this Mach task port right to get process statistics.
JPEG2000 is the last image format used in PDF filters that we
don't have a loader for. Let's change that.
This adds all the scaffolding, but no actual implementation yet.
This is a bit spammy now that we are performing some overload resolution
at build time. The fallback to an interface has generally worked fine on
the types it warns about (BufferSource, Module, etc.) so let's not warn
about it for every build.
IFF was a generic container fileformat that was popular on the Amiga
since it was the only file format supported by Deluxe Paint.
ILBM is an image format popular in the late eighties/nineties
that uses the IFF container.
This is a very first version of the decoder that only supports
(byterun) compressed files with bpp <= 8.
Only the minimal chunks are decoded: CMAP, BODY, BMHD.
I am planning to add support for the following variants:
- EHB (32 colours + lighter 32 colours)
- HAM6 / HAM8 (special mode that allowed to display the whole Amiga
4096 colours / 262 144 colours palette)
- TrueColor (24bit)
Things that could be fun to do:
- Still images could be animated using color cycle information
This encoder can handle all integer formats and sample rates, though
only two channels well. It uses fixed LPC and performs a
close-to-optimal parameter search on the LPC order and residual Rice
parameter, leading to decent compression already.
I couldn't run the parser in a debugger like I normally would, so I
added printouts to understand where the parser is failing.
More could be added, but these are enough to get a good idea of what
the parser is doing. It's very spammy, though, so enable it by flicking
the IMAP_PARSER_DEBUG switch :^)
