Split StyleCache's rule matching data from its invalidation metadata.
Allow callers to build either payload independently. Style invalidation
queries no longer force a full rule cache rebuild, and rule matching
no longer builds invalidation metadata as a side effect.
Previously, callers often treated an absent rule cache as proof that no
style invalidation metadata existed. That made some invalidation paths
do nothing until something else had populated the rule cache first.
Build invalidation data before reading it instead, so these paths use
the metadata whenever stylesheet rules require it.
Rebaseline style invalidation counter expectations for the new lazy
build points. Flush setup style work in the structural :has() feature
filter test before measuring each mutation, so the recomputation
counters describe the mutation itself instead of leftover setup work.
Collect the style rules that apply to an inspected element and expose
them through the existing DOM node inspection path. This gives Firefox's
Rules panel real rule forms instead of the previous empty getApplied
response.
When @media rules change match state, avoid treating that as a
whole-document stylesheet change. Record the rules under the query
that became effective or ineffective, build the normal stylesheet
invalidation set from those rules, and invalidate only matching
elements. Keep broad invalidation for rule kinds whose effects are not
selector-targetable.
Preserve cascade-wide fallout by reusing stylesheet-change shadow
effect analysis for broad invalidations inside shadow roots. This keeps
:host and slotted content current when active rules in the same shadow
scope can match there.
Also report an imported stylesheet's owner rule when the imported
sheet's own media gate changes. Layered @import rules can affect layer
ordering even when the imported sheet contributes no rules, so they
need the same broad invalidation treatment as other cascade-wide rules.
Add viewport resize coverage for media query breakpoints, broad
shadow-root media invalidation, and empty layered imports whose media
gate changes layer order.
ImageStyleValue stored GC-managed request, stylesheet, and animation
timer references as strong GC::Ptr fields even though image style values
are refcounted objects. When such a style value outlives the GC object
that normally visits it, those fields can keep stale pointers after GC
collects the referents. On Steam this allowed a stale image resource
request to be read as unrelated image data, making carousel SVG arrows
render at the wrong size.
Store these back references as GC::Weak instead. Reachable style values
still use live requests, stylesheets, and timers normally, but detached
values observe null after the GC collects the referent and can reload or
skip the now-dead association instead of dereferencing reused GC memory.
Keep a local timer handle while installing the timeout callback so setup
does not rely on the weak member.
With the image style values no longer hiding strong GC edges, remove the
obsolete IGNORE_GC annotation from CSSStyleSheet's pending image list.
Cache lightweight selector insights on each stylesheet so cold style
scopes can answer whether :has() invalidation is relevant without
building a complete rule cache. This avoids forcing rule caches for
shadow roots whose active sheets do not contain :has() selectors.
Imported sheets contribute to their parent sheet's effective rules, so
an imported sheet load or CSSOM change also clears ancestor selector
insight caches.
Add test-only counters and regression coverage for cold shadow roots
with and without :has() selectors, plus delayed imported :has() rules.
Previously we were inconsistent by generating code for enum definitions
but not generating code for dictionaries. With future changes to the
IDL generator to expose helpers to convert to and from IDL values
this produced circular depdendencies. To solve this problem, also
generate the dictionary definitions in bindings headers.
Share the style cache for shadow roots whose only active author sheet is
the same constructed stylesheet. Matching already carries the effective
shadow root separately, so the cache can be reused while selectors such
as :host and ::slotted() still evaluate against each consuming shadow
root.
Keep the optimization conservative by falling back to the existing
per-scope cache whenever the shadow root has multiple active sheets, a
non-constructed sheet, or a page user stylesheet. Drop the shared cache
when the stylesheet rules or media query match state change.
Add coverage for two shadow roots adopting the same constructed sheet,
including :host, ::slotted(), and replaceSync() invalidation.
HTMLLinkElement::removed_from() used `old_root` to find the
StyleSheetList to remove the link's stylesheet from. That's wrong
when the link element lives inside a shadow tree that is itself
nested within a larger removed subtree: Node::remove() hands every
shadow-including descendant the outer subtree's root as `old_root`,
not the descendant's own containing root. So we'd look in the
document's list while the sheet was actually in the shadow root's
list, failing the did_remove VERIFY in StyleSheetList::remove_sheet.
Fix by using the sheet's own owning-root tracking. A link-owned sheet
always has exactly one owning document or shadow root (only constructed
stylesheets can be adopted, and link sheets are never constructed), so
we can just read that entry.
Also make owning_documents_or_shadow_roots() return by const reference
instead of copying the HashTable on every call, which benefits existing
iterating callers too.
Fixes a crash on https://nytimes.com/.
Toggling CSSStyleSheet::disabled previously cleared the cached media
match bits and reloaded fonts, but never informed the owning documents
or shadow roots that style resolution was now stale. Worse, the IDL
binding for the disabled attribute dispatches through a non-virtual
setter on StyleSheet, so any override on CSSStyleSheet was bypassed
entirely.
Make set_disabled() virtual so the CSSStyleSheet override actually runs,
snapshot the pre-mutation shadow-root stylesheet effects before flipping
the flag, and hand them to invalidate_owners() so a disable that strips
the last host-reaching rule still tears down host-side style correctly.
When invalidate_owners() runs on a stylesheet scoped to a shadow root,
we previously dirtied the host and its light-DOM side too broadly. That
forced restyles on nodes the shadow-scoped stylesheet cannot match.
Inspect the sheet's effective selectors and dependent features up front.
Only dirty assigned nodes, the host, the host root, or host-side
animation consumers when the sheet can actually reach them, while
keeping purely shadow-local mutations inside the shadow tree.
Constructed stylesheets updated their rule lists, but adopted documents
and shadow roots were not restyled when replace(), replaceSync(),
or disabled-state changes modified the sheet. That left several CSSOM
tests passing stale computed styles.
Invalidate stylesheet owners after those updates so adopted sheets
recompute promptly. Also set replace()-produced rules' parent
stylesheet so non-import rules keep their stylesheet context.
The imported baseURL test assumes a tuple origin, so move it to the
HTTP fixture now that replaceSync() actually triggers a restyle.
Previously, FontFace objects created via the JS and added to
`document.fonts` were stored in the FontFaceSet but never participated
in font matching during style resolution. We now store both
CSS-connected and JS-created font faces in a unified map on
`FontComputer`, keyed by family name, and include them all as
candidates in the font matching algorithm.
Both Chromium and Gecko delay the document's load event for CSS image
resource requests (background-image, mask-image, etc). We now start
fetching CSS image resources as soon as their stylesheet is associated
with a document, rather than deferring until layout. This is done by
collecting ImageStyleValues during stylesheet parsing and initiating
their fetches when the stylesheet is added to the document.
Fixes#3448
The tricky bit of this is resolving cycles in extending rules and
ensuring that counter styles are registered in the required order for
extension (i.e. for any pair of extended/extending rules the extended
one should be registered first).
Previously, we fired the load event immediately, without waiting for
anything. This was good for not timing out, but bad for anything that
wanted to wait for the load to complete.
CSSStyleSheet now maintains a list of critical subresources, and waits
for all of them to complete before it then tells its owner that it is
ready. "Complete" here means the network request completed with or
without an error. This is done by having those subresources (just
`@import` for now) notify their style sheet when they complete. This
then propagates up as an `@import` tells its style sheet, which then
would tell its parent `@import` if it had one.
There are other subresources we should wait for (specifically fonts and
background images) but this commit just adds `@import` as a first step.
Remove includes from Node.h that are only needed for forward
declarations (AccessibilityTreeNode.h, XMLSerializer.h,
JsonObjectSerializer.h). Extract StyleInvalidationReason and
FragmentSerializationMode enums into standalone lightweight
headers so downstream headers (CSSStyleSheet.h, CSSStyleProperties.h,
HTMLParser.h) can include just the enum they need instead of all of
Node.h. Replace Node.h with forward declarations in headers that only
use Node by pointer/reference.
This breaks the circular dependency between Node.h and
AccessibilityTreeNode.h, reducing AccessibilityTreeNode.h's
recompilation footprint from ~1399 to ~25 files.
Previously these were only stored on the root style sheet and were
accessed by imported stylesheets via their owner rule.
Propagating these to imported style sheets allows us to more easily know
when they change for said imported style sheets.
Previously we would always use the window's viewport which was incorrect
if we were within an iframe.
This is likely applicable to all uses of
`Length::ResolutionContext::for_window`.
This allows them to keep style sheets alive while loading fonts for
them. Fixes some GC crashes seen on the WPT WOFF2 tests after
66a19b8550 stopped FetchRecord leaks from
keeping various other things alive.
To prepare for introducing a CSS::URL type, we need to qualify any use
of LibURL as `::URL::foo` instead of `URL::foo` so the compiler doesn't
get confused.
Many of these uses will be replaced, but I don't want to mix this in
with what will likely already be a large change.
Invalidation for adopted style sheets was broken because we had an
assumption that "active" style sheet is always attached to
StyleSheetList which is not true for adopted style sheets. This change
addresses that by keeping track of all documents/shadow roots that own
a style sheet and notifying them about invalidation instead of going
through the StyleSheetList.
Resulting in a massive rename across almost everywhere! Alongside the
namespace change, we now have the following names:
* JS::NonnullGCPtr -> GC::Ref
* JS::GCPtr -> GC::Ptr
* JS::HeapFunction -> GC::Function
* JS::CellImpl -> GC::Cell
* JS::Handle -> GC::Root
