Use the LibWebView history mirror to preserve traversable session
history across WebContent process swaps. WebContent reports snapshots to
the UI process, and new renderers can be seeded from the mirror.
Browser back and forward now resolve through the UI-owned used history
steps. WebContent still runs the spec traversal path when the current
renderer has enough matching state to do so.
Handle canceled and no-op UI navigations without leaving speculative
history entries or pending WebDriver waits behind. Preserve traversal
precheck state across synchronous IPC shutdown, and avoid overwriting a
restored target entry's persisted scroll state before the document has
adopted that entry.
Avoid asking PaintableFragment for geometry or text when dumping an
unpainted fragment. Some SVG inline subtrees can generate fragments for
nodes that intentionally have no paintable, and diagnostic dumps should
still be able to describe them.
Add a reduced SVG crash test that dumps a layout tree with unpainted
inline fragments.
Previously, and according to the spec, `a::part(foo)::before` would be a
single CompoundSelector, even though it matches against 3 different
targets. This meant some awkward swapping of targets in the middle of
matching, and in particular it made `::part()` and `::slotted()` quite
hacky, requiring them to track extra data on the MatchContext to then
use later. This was scattered around and difficult to follow.
Partly inspired by Gecko, this commit instead introduces an invisible
PseudoElement combinator. After parsing a selector, we find any
CompoundSelectors that contain a pseudo-element and split them up, so
that each CompoundSelector only has a single target in the end. Where
the pseudo-element was at the start of a CompoundSelector, we insert an
invisible universal selector before it to represent its originating
element.
So now, a CompoundSelector deals with one target, and switching targets
is done at the combinator.
The one inconsistency is that we match the target of ::slotted()
and ::part() in pseudo_element_transition_target(), instead of before
then when processing the SimpleSelector. This is to avoid repeating the
same computations twice.
No outward-facing behaviour changes, though the invalidation metrics
have changed.
The Paintable tree and its supplemental painting data structures were
GC allocated because that was the easiest way to manage it and avoid
leaks introduced by ref cycles. This included the Paintable subclasses
themselves plus StackingContext, ChromeWidget, Scrollbar, ResizeHandle,
and scroll-frame state.
We are now trying to reduce GC allocation churn on layout and painting
updates, so keeping this short-lived rendering tree outside the JS heap
is a better fit. Move Paintable to RefCountedTreeNode, make painting
helpers ref-counted or weakly reference Paintables, and update the
layout and event-handler call sites to use RefPtr/WeakPtr ownership.
Previously, the active document's lifecycle was bound to
SessionHistoryEntry via DocumentState. The ownership chain was:
Navigable → SessionHistoryEntry → DocumentState → Document
This made it impossible to move SessionHistoryEntry to the UI process
(which cannot own DOM::Document). This commit decouples the two by
giving Navigable a direct m_active_document field that serves as the
authoritative source for active_document().
- Navigable owns m_active_document directly; active_document() reads
from it instead of going through the active session history entry.
- DocumentState no longer holds a Document pointer. Instead, it stores
a document_id for "same document?" checks. Same-document navigations
share a DocumentState and thus the same document_id, while
cross-document navigations create a new DocumentState with a new ID.
- A pending_document parameter is threaded through
finalize_a_cross_document_navigation → apply_the_push_or_replace →
apply_the_history_step so the newly created document reaches
activation without being stored on DocumentState.
- For traversal, the population output delivers the document.
A resolved_document is computed per continuation from either the
pending document, the population output, or the current active
document (for same-document traversals).
Some at-rules (i.e. `@function`) require us to support custom
descriptors (e.g. `--foo`).
We do this by adding `DescriptorID::Custom` and using a new
`DescriptorNameAndID` class in a bunch of places where we previously
just used `DescriptorID`
Add unsafe_layout_node(), unsafe_paintable(), and unsafe_paintable_box()
accessors that skip layout-staleness verification. These are for use in
contexts where accessing layout/paintable data is legitimate despite
layout not being up to date: tree construction, style recalculation,
painting, animation interpolation, DOM mutation, and invalidation
propagation.
Also add wrapper APIs on Node to centralize common patterns:
- set_needs_display() wraps if (unsafe_paintable()) ...set_needs_display
- set_needs_paint_only_properties_update() wraps similar
- set_needs_layout_update() wraps if (unsafe_layout_node()) ...
And add Document::layout_is_up_to_date() which checks whether layout
tree update flags are all clear.
Instead of dumping only the single paintable passed into the function,
iterate over all paintables attached to its layout node. This makes
detached/disconnected paintables visible in the dump output, which is
useful for debugging incremental layout issues.
Rebaseline content-image-simple layout test: the anonymous InlineNode
for ::before content spanning multiple lines legitimately has a
separate PaintableWithLines per line, which now all appear in the dump.
Remove 11 heavy includes from Document.h that were only needed for
pointer/reference types (already forward-declared in Forward.h), and
extract the nested ViewportClient interface to a standalone header.
This reduces Document.h's recompilation cascade from ~1228 files to
~717 files (42% reduction). Headers like BrowsingContext.h that were
previously transitively included see even larger improvements (from
~1228 down to ~73 dependents).
Add optional tracing that prints a tree visualization of formatting
context `run()` invocations. This is useful for debugging layout issues
where you need to understand the nesting and order of layout passes,
or why a box receives unexpected available space.
Example output:
```
├─ BFC <Viewport<#document>> run(definite(800) x definite(600))
│ ├─ BFC <BlockContainer<HTML>> run(definite(800) x indefinite)
│ │ ├─ IFC <BlockContainer(anonymous)> run(definite(800) x indefinite)
│ │ ├─ GFC <Box<DIV.grid>> run(definite(800) x indefinite)
│ │ │ ├─ BFC <BlockContainer<DIV.item>> run(definite(400) x indefinite)
```
Having the dumping code in a separate Dump.cpp meant that it was often
overlooked when the rules gained new features, and also limits dumping
to publicly-accessible information.
Previously, we were collapsing whitespace in Layout::TextNode and then
passed the resulting string for further processing through ChunkIterator
-> InlineLevelIterator -> InlineFormattingContext -> LineBuilder ->
LineBoxFragment -> PaintableFragment. Our painting tree is where we deal
with things like range offsets into the underlying text nodes, but since
we modified the original string, the offsets were wrong.
This changes the way we generate fragments:
* Layout::TextNode no longer collapses whitespace as part of its
stored "text for rendering", but moves this logic to ChunkIterator
which splits up this text into separate views whenever whitespace
needs to be collapsed.
* Layout::LineBox now only extends the last fragment if its end offset
is equal to the new fragment's start offset. Otherwise, there's a
gap caused by collapsing whitespace and we need to generate a
separate fragment for that in order to have a correct start offset.
Some tests need new baselines because of the fixed start offsets.
Fixes#566.
This reverts e7890429aa and partly reverts
a59c15481f.
The one pseudo-class that accepted multiple of these was :heading(), and
since that got changed to take integers instead, there's no need to keep
this extra complexity (and memory usage) around.
Inline nodes in our layout tree have a position, so let's show it. By
centralizing the logic for this, block nodes now lose their redundant
'content-size' dump info which is already part of the box model dump.
The upcoming `:heading()` pseudo-class takes multiple comma-separated
An+Bs. Also rename this field as the `:nth-[last-]child()`
pseudo-classes are only a subset of the users.
This migrates TextNode::text_for_rendering() to Utf16String and deals
with the fallout. As a consequence, this effectively reverts commit
3df83dade8.
The layout test expecation file updates are because we now express text
lengths and offsets in UTF-16 code units.
The selection-over-multiple-code-units expectation file update actually
represents a correctness fix. Our result now matches Firefox.
When dumping the DOM tree, only prefix the element's local name with its
short namespace identifier if it's not the document's default namespace.
This gets rid of the excessive "html:" and "svg:" prefixes in context of
an HTML or SVG document, respectively.
We were only dumping a PaintableBox' dimensions if its layout node was a
Layout::Box as well, causing us to not dump the dimensions of paintables
for inline nodes in the paintable tree.
The spec requires us to accept any ident here, not just ltr/rtl, and
also serialize it back out. That means we need to keep the original
string around.
In order to not call keyword_from_string() every time we want to match
a :dir() selector, we still attempt to parse the keyword and keep it
around.
A small behaviour change is that now we'll serialize the ident with its
original casing, instead of always lowercase. Chrome and Firefox
disagree on this, so I think either is fine until that can be
officially decided.
Gets us 2 WPT passes (including 1 from the as-yet-unmerged :dir() test).
This is a bit under-specced, specifically there's no definition of
CSSMarginDescriptors so I've gone with CSSStyleProperties for now. Gets
us 17 WPT subtests.
ParsedFontFace and FontLoader now both keep track of which
CSSStyleSheet (if any) was the source of the font-face, so the URLs can
be completed correctly.
The regression in the "conditional-CSSGroupingRule" test is we now fail
the "inserting an `@import`" subtests differently and the subtests
aren't independent. Specifically, we don't yet implement the checks in
`CSSRuleList::insert_a_css_rule()` that reject certain rules from being
inserted. Previously we didn't insert the `@import` rule because we
failed to parse its relative URL. Now we parse it correctly, we end up
inserting it.
CSSFontFaceRule now stores its values as a CSSFontFaceDescriptors, with
a ParsedFontFace produced on request. This is exposed via the `style`
attribute, so we pass a lot of tests that try to read values from
that.
We have one test regression, which we passed by mistake before: The test
wanted to ensure we don't allow `@font-face` nested inside other rules.
We passed it just because we discarded any `@font-face` without a
`font-family`. What we're supposed to do is 1) keep at-rules with
missing required descriptors and just not use them, and 2) reject
certain ones when nested.
We may want to cache the ParsedFontFace in the future, but I didn't here
because 1) it's called rarely, and 2) that would mean knowing to
invalidate it when the CSSFontFaceDescriptors changes, which isn't
obvious to me right now.
"Functional" as in "it's a function token" and not "it works", because
the behaviour for these is unimplemented. :^)
This is modeled after the pseudo-class parsing, but with some changes
based on things I don't like about that implementation. I've
implemented the `<pt-name-selector>` parameter used by view-transitions
for now, but nothing else.
