Replace the generated public suffix table and custom matcher with a
direct LibURL PublicSuffixData implementation backed by libpsl. This
drops our PSL download/generator path and uses the same library already
used by libcurl.
Performance is comparable before and after, while LibURL binary size
is smaller.
Rename PublicSuffixData's raw lookup helpers to make it clear that they
only return public suffixes matched from the PSL data.
This distinguishes them from Host::public_suffix(), which implements the
URL Standard definition and falls back to the top-level domain when no
PSL rule matches.
We need both layers because address bar handling needs the raw lookup to
decide whether input should be treated as a URL or as a search.
Show web URLs without their scheme, a leading host www., or the
root slash while the location field is not being edited. Restore the
fully serialized URL while editing so the original scheme is preserved,
but keep mouse focus stable until release so clicks target the visible
text.
Keep the domain emphasis for shortened Qt location text by deriving the
highlight ranges from the serialized URL and remapping them to the
visible display form. Special URLs like about, data, and file remain
unchanged. Add LibWebView coverage for the shared display helper used by
both UI frontends.
Replace the frontend-facing Vector<String> flow with structured
AutocompleteSuggestion objects carrying source, section, title,
and favicon metadata.
Build merged history and literal-URL rows in LibWebView, deduplicate
equivalent URL suggestions, move the autocomplete URL helpers out
of URL.h, and update the history and URL tests around the new model.
LibURL parses "localhost:8000" as a URL with a scheme of "localhost" and
basename of "8000". Similar to "mailto:" URLs. We then drop the URL as
having an invalid scheme.
Let's explicitly check for such localhost URLs here and prepend a valid
scheme, as it is a bit of a special case.
The result is currently only used as a StringView, but a future commit
will place the result in Web::Clipboard::SystemClipboardRepresentation,
which requires a ByteString (there's no UTF-8 clipboard requirement).
It is confusing to have both URL::Host::public_suffix and
URL:get_public_suffix, both with slightly different semantics.
Instead, use PublicSuffixData for cases that just want a direct
match against the list, and URL::Host::public_suffix in LibWeb
land as the URL spec defined AO.
Creating a URL should almost always go through the URLParser to
handle all of the small edge cases involved. This reduces the
need for URL valid state.
This is to prepare for custom search engines. If we use AK::format, it
would be trivial for a user (or bad actor) to come up with a template
search engine URL that ultimately crashes the browser due to internal
assertions in AK::format. For example:
https://example.com/crash={1}
Rather than coming up with a complicated pre-format validator, let's
just not use AK::format. Custom URLs will signify their template query
parameters with "%s". So we can do the same with our built-in engines.
When it comes time to format the URL, we will do a simple string
replacement.
With search enabled:
- For a single word that does not look like a url: search (a
reported bug).
- If no suffix or a suffix that is not recognized: search.
In general:
- Respect the user's choice if they specified a scheme.
- Respect localhost and registered TLDs.
- As before, add file:// to filesystem files that exist.
If Ctrl is pressed when a string is entered into the location bar and
that string doesn't contain a valid TLD, ".com" is added to that string.
Previously, only a small, fixed set of TLDs was checked. We now use the
public suffix list to determine if the given address contains a valid
TLD.
